Short Information about Syskonbandet

Syskonbandet, meaning ”the band of brothers and sisters”, is the association of the Christian visually impaired in Sweden. Syskonbandet was founded in 1908 and has about 300 visually impaired and sighted members in different ages from all over the country. The purpose of the association is to support its members in their vital processes and to spread the Christian message to other visually impaired people.

  • We distribute a newspaper, six numbers a year, in different media: large print, Braille, Daisy (oral form on a CD) and digitally (on the computer).
  • There are regional groups meeting more or less regularly.
  • Every year we arrange different camps and conferences where members meet for nice community. At those times we hold a service together, sing, have activities suitable for everyone, pray for each other and share experiences.
  • We also carry on missionary work in Tanzania, Ethiopia and the Congo, where we keep in touch with associated companies. For instance, we support a Tanzanian school for the blind, founded by one of our members in the 1960s.
